Ever look at your nails and think, “Hmm, these could use some love”? A basic manicure is all you need. It’s simple, relaxing, and your hands instantly look cleaner and prettier. You don’t need fancy tools or hours — just a few small steps.

Why bother with a basic manicure?

Even a quick manicure makes your nails stronger, keeps cuticles healthy, and just makes your fingers look neat. Honestly, it’s also a little moment of self-care — your hands deserve it.

Things you’ll need

  • Nail clipper or scissors

  • Nail file or emery board

  • Warm water + mild soap

  • Cuticle cream or oil

  • Hand cream

  • Base coat, nail polish, top coat (if you want a color finish)

How to do it step by step

  1. Take off old polish and wash your hands
Start clean. Old polish, dirt, and oils can ruin the look.

  2. Trim or file your nails
If your nails are long, clip a little. Otherwise, just shape them with a file. File in one direction — it stops splitting.

  3. Soak your hands for a few minutes
Warm water softens your nails and cuticles, making them easier to manage.

  4. Push back cuticles gently
Use a cuticle stick or soft tool. Don’t cut them — just push lightly so nails look neat.

  5. Moisturize
Massage some hand cream or cuticle oil. Soft nails and skin make everything look smoother.

  6. Apply polish (optional)
Start with a base coat, add 1–2 thin layers of color, then a top coat. Let each layer dry a little before the next.

Quick checklist

  • Remove old polish & wash hands

  • Trim/file nails

  • Soak hands 5–7 minutes

  • Push back cuticles gently

  • Moisturize → polish → top coat

FAQ

How often should I do a basic manicure?
Once every 2–3 weeks is plenty. Too often can dry out nails.

Can I skip cuticle care?
You can, but pushing them back helps polish go on smoother and prevents hangnails.
