If used correctly, facial oil can be a powerful tool in your skin care regimen to hydrate, glow, and nourish your skin barrier. The secret is to select the perfect oil for your skin type and to apply it during the right step of your routine.

When to apply facial oil in your routine?

In general, facial oil is recommended to be used:

- Right after cleansing and toning

- After applying serums

- Most of the time, after moisturiser (to seal everything in), or mixed with moisturiser

It can be thought of as the last layer that keeps the water inside your skin.

How to apply facial oil: step by step

1.Get your skin slightly damp

Spray your face with water or toner. Oils take better that way and are easily absorbed by the skin if it is damp.

2.Use only a few drops

Just 2–4 drops will do for your whole face. Overusing may cause your skin to feel oily and pores to get clogged.

3.Heat it a bit in your palms

Take the oil in your hands and rub it to heat it.

4.Do not rubbing, but pressing

Help your palms gently pressing your cheeks, forehead, and chin. Then glide a little bit outward and upward. Be careful not to pull or tug the skin.

5.Add SPF when using it in the morning

If you apply oil in the day, do not forget to add sunscreen as the last step.

Tips based on skin type

Oily / acne prone: Opt for light, non‑comedogenic oils such as squalane, rosehip, or hemp seed oil. Only use it at night.

Dry: The likes of marula, argan, or avocado oil are full of nutrients and will provide comfort and hydration to flaky skin.

Combination: A light oil can be applied to dry areas only, or very sparsely all over your face.

Facial oil is most effective when it is a harmonious addition to your moisturiser and sun protection, rather than a ‌replacement.
