What Precautions Should Be Taken After Hair Spa?

Comfortable aftercare is what makes the hair spa treatment last, as it extends the shine, the smoothness and the hair's strength for about 2-4 weeks. Simple measures can keep the deep conditioning done through the mask, the massage and the steaming intact.

Delay First Wash

Do not wash your hair with shampoo for 24-72 hours in order to allow maximum absorption of nutrients into the cuticles. Very early washing removes the hydration and the effect lasts for a very short time. If necessary, use dry shampoo for freshness.

Use Lukewarm Water and Sulfate-Free Products

While washing, use lukewarm water only as hot water opens the cuticles and the hair loses the benefits it gets. To maintain the moisture balance, wash your hair at most 2-3 times a week and use gentle, sulfate-free shampoos.

Skip Heat Styling Tools

Do not use heat styling appliances such as blow-dryers, straighteners or curling irons for 48-72 hours as the heat will evaporate the proteins that have been put into the hair. Let your hair dry naturally or if you must use a dryer, use the cool setting.

Avoid Tight Hairstyles and Rough Combing

Do not use hair ties that wrap your hair in a ponytail or a bun and thus, pull the roots which might result in breakage. Detangle your hair with a wide-tooth comb and always start from the ends when your hair is wet. Using silk pillowcases at night, is a good method to protect the hair from friction.

Limit Product Use and Environmental Exposure

Do not burden your hair with heavy oils, gels or sprays that can clog the pores. Protect your hair from pollution, UV rays, and dust while outdoors by using a hat or a scarf - these are the things that keep the hair shiny. Stay away from pools and chlorine for a week.

Support Internally

Drink enough water and consume food rich in protein, like eggs and nuts in order to have a continuous repair. Avoid spicy food and smoking as they dry the scalp.

If you keep up with these, your hair will be like after going to the salon but for a longer period of time. Regular monthly hair-spas along with proper hair care will bring cumulative hair health.
