How Is Nail Extension Done?
So, how is nail extension done? In simple words — your natural nail gets a little help. Length added. Shape created. That’s it.
But let’s slow down.
You walk into the salon with short nails. You walk out with long, glossy ones. Magic? Not really. Just process.
What Actually Happens
Here’s the basic flow. Quick and clear.
- Nails are cleaned and filed – shine removed
- Tips or forms are placed – to add length
- Gel or acrylic applied – shaped carefully
- Cured under UV lamp – if using gel
- Filed, shaped, polished – smooth finish
That’s the core of it. Nothing scary.
Usually takes about 60 to 90 minutes. Depends on design. Simple look? Faster. Heavy nail art? Bring snacks.
A Small Story
My cousin Aarti got extensions before her wedding shoot. She was nervous. Thought it would hurt. It didn’t. She said it felt odd for a day. Then normal. By week two? Totally forgot they weren’t her real nails.
That’s the real win. Not just length. Confidence.
Gel or Acrylic?
Quick tip — gel feels lighter. Acrylic feels stronger. Both last around 3–4 weeks if you maintain them. Not forever though. They grow out. You’ll need a refill.
And no, it shouldn’t hurt. If it does, something’s wrong.
